Meet The Team

Meet the Team

With over 60 years of experience working with children and parents, and with a major SEND specialism, our philosophy at YOG is to give every team member the every opportunity to train in all areas of specialist child development and embrace new learning opportunities.

Our staff are passionate about exploring new techniques and latest research to support our children, parents and carers and regularly attend training to discover the latest best practice in learning and development and communication for 0-4s.

As well as traditional childcare qualifications, our staff are all trained in SEND as well as specialist training in ASD, Advanced Communication Techniques, Behaviour is Communication, Safeguarding, STC (Somerset Total Communication) and PEC's (Picture Exchange Communication System) and a variety of medical courses to support children with their individual medical needs.

As well as networking for parents and carers, where possible we also extend opportunities for training, attendance at workshops and regular briefings.

Ratios of Adults to children

Our ratios relate to the number of adults to children.

As a centre used for training we will normally have a number of trained volunteers working with the team, a variety of visiting professionals, including medical students and students studying childcare.

Ratios depend on the needs of the children at any one time. In the Small Playroom, ratios will not exceed 1 adult: 2 children and are often better than this. In the Main Playroom, ratios will not exceed 1 adult to 3 children.

Staff have specialist training in physiotherapy skills (Bobath training), Speech and Language skills (Derbyshire Language Course), Autism, working with children with Down's Syndrome, Picture Exchange Communication System, (PECS) T.E.A.C.C.H., Attention Autism, TAC PAC.

Additionally all staff receive First Aid training, Child Protection training, training on Early Years Foundation Stage framework as well as training offered locally by Somerset County Council.
